Jackson Avenue, Long Island City - Retail
Fast-changing LIC presents a rare opportunity for retailers. By day and by night, it offers a customer base eager for an eclectic mix of stores, cafes, galleries and more. Innovative, modern residential buildings house thousands of young professionals, entrepreneurs and artists, with many more apartments coming on the market in 2018. Local businesses, including the Citibank tower owned by Savannah, Silvercup Studios, JetBlue and the DOT (Department of Transportation) draw a work force of thousands to the area daily. Tishman Speyer is adding 1.2 million square feet of office space to the neighborhood. The project will be completed in 2019 and two major tenants, WeWork and Macy's Corporate have executed leases. In addition, CUNY School of Law draws a student population to LIC.
A thriving cultural scene enlivens this growing community around LIC's Court Square. The area, shaped by its heavy industrial past, is now populated with studios for musicians, painters and sculptors. It's a magnet for the film business, galleries and museums like MoMA PS1 and the Sculpture Center.
Rockrose understands the importance of having high-quality goods and services available when and where you need them, so we take an extremely thoughtful approach to selecting retail tenants for our buildings – ensuring the best scenarios for retail clients, residents and area workers. Our Jackson Avenue Retail Spaces provide a seldom-seen ground-floor opportunity for smart retailers who bring something beyond the ordinary.
In 2017, our Long Island City renovated retail space was made available in storefronts of well-preserved traditional buildings along Jackson Avenue. Rockrose opened Toby's Estate Coffee at 26-25 Jackson Avenue in February and Levante, Italian dining featuring brick oven pizza, located at 26-21 Jackson Avenue, in July. Sapps, Japanese fare located at 27-26 Jackson Avenue and Indie LIC, with an Indie Food and Wine location at Lincoln Center, expanded with their second shop located in Long Island City at Rockrose's 43-10 Crescent Street Building, both opened in November. Continuing with the excitement of bringing new retail to the area, Book Culture has joined forces with Rockrose and opened their first Long Island City location in December at 26-09 Jackson Avenue. Also, Rockrose has added a pharmacy, City Chemist, to the list of new retailers opening locations in Long Island City. Pharmacies have been in high demand in the area, and City Chemist is being the perfect fit at The Hayden, a Rockrose building located at 43-25 Hunter Street which borders the Jackson Avenue retail. City Chemist is set to open for business in Winter of 2018.
